Improvisation for Piano and Organ - Milan - 12-26-2008 - 1

We tried this improvisation due to a friend's remark, posted on Youtube. This Friend, a Pianist, suggested us to alternate Piano and Organ in this Improvisation. And so we did (me and the Organist Paolo Springhetti), deciding to give space to Piano and Organ in an alternate way, enhancing different expressions for these instruments. We performed three Improvisations, in the same church where, five days back, we played for a Concert. This is the first, and the shortest improvisation. In these Improvisations we played emphasizing the different styles and expressions performs in a Typical Baroque Style, with some echoes from Renaissance. Organ looks back like Musical period, not like style. Piano, conversely, looks forward, trying a more modern expression. This poses a sort of contrast, an opposition of styles. While Organ echoes a Bach or even a Buxtehude style, piano replies with, sometimes, some Popular Accents, but more frequently with a Romantic Taste, with "arpeggios", and with an Homophone structure. But, sometimes, with a polyphonic entrance, but less severe and more light. This contrast, for me, gives rise to a particular effect. We were, mostly, in tune, in the sense of attacking with the same tonality left by the other instrument. But, sometimes, we may experience some dissonances. No problems, they are part of the spirit of this unconventional improvisation, where even dissonances play an important rule, and, far away from assuming an ugly aspect, may be tasteful, and enjoyable. I hope you may enjoy this experiment. We are waiting for your feedback, wishing you that Music may always fill up your life, giving taste, sense and joy to each moment of your life.
